There is a very serious sense of respect and reverence of Filipinos to the elderly members of their family, starting from the next sister or brother above them. “Po and Opo” is also a very common term you’ll hear in areas that speak the Tagalog dialect since it is the respectful way of saying yes. Yes in Tagalog dialect is “Oo” but when said to the elderly, it becomes “opo” to show respect. “Po” is also inserted in between sentence, again as a sign of respect when talking to the elderly. “Pagmamano” is also another sign of respect. It is a light dabbing of the forehead to the hand of an elderly person. This is done each time you meet an elderly person.
